Kribi, the Pearl of Cameroon: What to Do Beyond the Dream Beaches?

When mentioning a trip to the Cameroonian coast, one name immediately comes to mind: Kribi. Nicknamed the "Riviera of Cameroon," it is famous for its miles of fine sandy beaches lined with coconut trees. But reducing Kribi to its beaches would be a mistake! So, what is there to do in Kribi for a truly unforgettable stay? Follow the guide!

1. Witness the Unique Spectacle of the Lobé Falls

This is the most iconic attraction, and for good reason. Imagine a river, the Lobé, which ends its course with a series of waterfalls plunging directly into the Atlantic Ocean. This is an extremely rare natural phenomenon in the world. The best way to appreciate it is to take a pirogue trip to get as close as possible to the powerful curtain of water and feel the spray on your face. This is an experience not to be missed under any circumstances during your visit to Kribi.

2. Meet the Bagyeli Pygmy Communities

By traveling up the Lobé River in a pirogue, you can go to meet the Bagyeli Pygmy communities. Far from clichés, this is an opportunity for exchange and discovery of an ancestral way of life in harmony with the forest. Accompanied by a guide who knows the families well, you can discover their crafts, their knowledge of plants, and their culture. This is a cultural and human facet that will deeply enrich your stay in Kribi.

3. Taste the Famous "Cossa-Cossa" Prawns

A trip to Kribi would not be complete without a gastronomic experience. Settle into one of the many small beachfront restaurants and order the quintessential local dish: "cossa-cossa" prawns, freshly caught and grilled over a wood fire, served with fried plantains and a spicy sauce. Eating with your feet in the sand while watching the sunset is one of the most pleasant activities to do in Kribi.

4. Explore the Surroundings: Campo Ma'an Park

If you have a little more time, Kribi is the ideal starting point for an excursion south to the Campo Ma'an National Park. This reserve is a sanctuary for many species such as forest elephants, gorillas, buffaloes, and a very rich birdlife. It is an excellent way to combine a seaside stay with a short adventure in the equatorial forest.
