  2. The Final Ascent: The climb to the summit (4095m) proceeds through savanna and then across spectacular volcanic terrain.
  3. The Traverse: Rather than descending the same way, the itinerary crosses the mountain's flank, offering different views and landscapes.
  4. The Descent to Limbe: The final stage of the trek leads you to the coast, where rest on Limbe's black sand beaches is a well-deserved reward.

Practical Tips for a Successful Ascent

Good preparation is the key to a successful Mount Cameroon ascent.

  • Best Time: The dry season, from November to March, is ideal. Trails are less muddy, and visibility at the summit is generally better.
  • Physical Condition: Good endurance is required. Prepare with regular hikes, including elevation gain, in the months leading up to your trip.
  • Essential Equipment: Do not depart without good hiking boots, layered clothing (fleece, waterproof jacket), a headlamp, trekking poles, and a water bottle of at least 2 liters.
  • Trust the Experts: Going with a local team of guides and porters is essential for safety, logistics (meals, camping), and to enrich your experience through their knowledge of the mountain.
